On the 12 th Of August, 2000, a very amazing crop circle appeared in Wооdbоrоugh Hill, UK. It had the shape of the bеаutіful Sunflower рlаnt. At the time, it was one of the most complex geometric patterns to appear. The formation was said to be over 250 feet in diameter and composed over three hundred standing triangles arranged around a set of thirteen rings.

The sunflower, otherwise known as the Helianthus (in reference to Helios, the Greek god of the sun), is an annual plant that originated in the Americas in 1,000 B.C. As at then, they were cultivated as a valuable food source but with the European exploration of the World, the flower’s then popularity spread across the world and the rest of the world began to appreciate its beauty. The sunflower has been used to symbolize a number of things in different cultures and religions. The sunflower though comes in a number of varieties, has a reputation for having an elevating effect on ones spirit.

One of the most common examples of the occurrence of the popular golden ratio in nature is in this mаjеѕtіс рlаnt known as the sunflower. From research, the seed layout in the seed base at the center of the flower follows a very unique geometric pattern. Upon close observation, it is noticed that there are two sets of spirals that intersect wherein one is spiraling in the clockwise direction, the other is turning in the anti-clockwise direction and at the point of intersection of the two spirals, a seed is occurs. The total number of spirals turning in the clockwise direction is 55 and the amount of spirals turning in the anti-clockwise direction is 89. Amazingly, both are Fibonacci numbers.
The sunflower derives its name from its striking resemblance to the sun and this has considerably influenced the meaning of the flower. The petals of the flower have been related to the bright rays of which bring about warm and happy feelings and consequently the symbol of Sunflower is often used to portray joyful and bright emotions. Also, the sunflower symbol has also been related to adoration and long-life.
